I have purchased this book more than once. I have given it away a couple of times after reading it over and over. For "good" parents who have tried to love their kids and do their best, I think this is an excellent resource of encouragement and hope. While the authors don't give many specifics on how to deal with your substance abusing teen, they do offer the realization that other parents who have done their best still had kids who went astray. I have to say that it was no small thing in my mind that all 19 of the people discussed in this book grew up in two parent, church-going homes. As a divorced mom, I took a great deal of encouragement from that one thing.Authors offer a website with other resources, as well as assistance in getting connected with a local support group of other parents like yourself. I think the sub-title says it all..."You are not alone..."

Shipped quickly and excellent read. I would recommend it to anyone not just a parent of a chlid on drugs.
This book has so many truths that we, as Christians parents, need to hear and believe. I enjoyed the different prospectives from various parents and professionals in the filed of addiction.
Good book on the topic of addiction and how it can't be battled by self will only.
One word comes to mind. Pretentious. With the exception of 2 families,who openly discussed the drug use of their child, most glossed over the drug use and instead quoted bible verses. You want "hit by a ton of bricks"- how about finding out your child stole your recently deceased mother's jewelry to pawn for drugs, or getting a call in the middle of the night that your child was found dead with a needle in his/her arm; or being attacked by your out of her mind meth head daughter forcing you to have her arrested for assault These are the norms for parents of drug addicted children. When pastors are ready to tell the real story..let me know and I'll read the book, as is...most of you are still living in denial.
I have given away so many of these books to people whose children have gone astray and it has helped each one of them.
This book was recommended by a Pastor and friend to understand better how to counsel families who are dealing
with a loved one who has become a drug addict. It gives a clear understanding of how loved ones and families are
affected by a member of the family being on drugs and how to respond to their addiction.
Excellent book written by families for families dealing with family members with addiction problems.
